TitleListening to Jesus as a Jew
AuthorElizabeth Palmer
Secondary Religion
  • Christianity
  • Judaism
Overview

As a Jewish Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at a Protestant seminary, Levine appreciates Jesus as a remarkable man of his time and the inaccurate, even anti-Jewish, readings of many Christians. Common
errors of Christian readings make Jesus the originator of love, mercy, and grace, though they were normal Jewish values. Christian views of Jews as xenophobic and misogynistic are don't fit the scriptures. The parables of the Prodigal Son and Good Samaritan are good examples of Christian misunderstanding of the Jewish background.
