Overview | Christian piety combines ethical rules and religious practices, which vary among the traditions. Common to all Christians are grounding in Christ, the ten commandments, the cardinal virtues (temperance, courage, practical wisdom, and justice), the theological virtues (faith hope, and love), and love. Monotheism (the oneness of God), sin as idolatry, and faith as covenant are basic, but the most specific Christian belief is the relationship with Jesus Christ who is known in scripture and sacrament. Christian traditions vary, but these themes are always present. This work describes Christian life as it is lived within the Anglican tradition, which especially emphasizes transformation of the person and society.
